Herbs for Lung Cleansing

The lungs function to absorb oxygen from the air we breathe so that our body could make use of it. Without oxygen, we couldn’t possibly survive!
Although modern times age of machine, we all are living with pollutants everyday. Here are some herbs that can help lungs heal and maintain its function-


Oregano- Oregano can help reduce the severity of allergy symptoms because it has rosmarinic acid – a natural antihistamine. The herb also contains thymol, terpenes, and carvacrol which can effectively eradicate fungi and different types of bacteria from your lungs.
oregano is a natural decongestant. Research by the ENT Department of the Israel Institute of Technology .
How to use: Cook oregano with food. The aroma it gives off while cooking acts as a decongestant. Oregano can be prepared fresh or dry depending on your taste. You can also add a few drops of oregano oil in your milk, tea, or juice at least once a day to detoxify your lungs.


Mullein

The flowering plant has long been used by Aboriginal Australians as an herbal remedy for respiratory ailments including asthma, pneumonia, and tuberculosis. Austrians traditionally took it as tea or added it to ointments and baths for external use.
How it works: Mullein is a natural expectorant. It contains saponins which break down mucus in the lungs and airways and reduces nasal congestion
How to use: Add mullein in tea by adding 1 to 2 tsps. of dried flowers and/or leaves to a cup of boiling water. Steam the herb for 10 minutes then strain before drinking.


 Osha Root

Osha is a plant  which is most powerful lung detoxifiers you can get,used by narive Americans for colds, cough, and other respiratory problems . It grows on the high mountains of northwest Mexico and the Rocky Mountains of Canada.Among its detoxifying ingredients are camphor, terpenes, saponins, phytosterols, and ferulic acid.It has anti-histaminic properties.
How to use-Add 1 to 2 tsps. of cut or crushed Osha root to 1 cup of boiling water. Steam for1/2 hr  and drink as tea.

 Lungwort

How it works: Lungwort acts by increasing the production of serous mucus in the air passages. This thins out phlegm and makes it easier to expectorate. Besides clearing out mucus, lungwort is known to remove accumulated tar from the lungs, throat, and airways. Smokers who want to quit smoking would greatly benefit from this herb. People suffering from bronchitis, asthma, and respiratory diseases that constrict the airways can benefit from lungwort as well due to its anti-inflammatory effects.
How to use- Mix1 to 2 tsps. of dried lungwort leaves to 1 cup of boiling water.  Drink 1 cup three times a day to cleanse your lungs


Licorice Root

 It loosens up phlegm so it is easier to expel. It even has antibiotic properties, killing bacteria and viruses and preventing respiratory infection. Licorice root is also bronchodilator
How to use- Boil in water and drink that.



Thyme

Thyme may be a common kitchen herb, but like Oregano, it can detoxify your lungs. The evergreen plant has had many uses since ancient times, although its lung cleansing effects weren’t discovered until recently.
How it works: Thyme leaves contain a potent detoxifying agent known as thymol – a naturally occurring substance with antiseptic effects. Thymol is so good at fighting microbes that it is commonly the active ingredient in mouthwashes. Thyme cleanses the lungs and airways by removing bacteria, viruses, or fungi.
How to use-Add fresh or dried thyme leaves to a pot of boiling water. Let it sit for two minutes and drink as tea.


 Indian Tobacco

It’s not really tobacco but rather, a common name used for lung cleansing. Also known as Lobelia Inflata, the herb grows only once or twice a year in its native territory – North America have used it to treat respiratory diseases and  to detoxify our lungs.
How it works: Lobeline is an alkaloid and the main component behind the Indian tobacco’s lung benefits. It promotes the expulsion of phlegm by loosening and thinning mucus found in the lungs and air passages. Lobeline opens up the airways since it is a bronchodilator.
How to use: Add 5 to 10 leaves of Indian tobacco in boiling water. Inhale the steam.


Elecampane (horse-heal )also known as wild sunflower.

Elecampane has a multitude of medicinal benefits.also called horse-heal and wild sunflower.

How it works- herb contains inulin which, apart from soothing irritated passages, acts as an expectorant and expels mucus.

How to use: Ground elecampane roots not older than  two or three years,and add a teaspoon to a cup of water.

Plantain Leaf

How it works: Studies show that plantain leaf contains pectin and glycerin, two common ingredients found in lozenges and cough syrups
How to use: Make tea by brewing 1 to 2 plantain leaves in a cup of boiling water, drink.

THREE HERBS TO BOOOOOST IMMUNITY-GINGER,GARLIC,OREGANO

Garlic:

NIHConsumption of garlic daily is one of the best defenses against infection and inflammatory-based disease.
Garlic contains over 100 biologically active components including alliin, allicin, alliinase and unique sulfur compounds. When garlic is crushed or chewed, it forces the allin and allinase enzyme together and causes a chemical reaction to produce allicin.

Allicin and sulfur-based compounds act as powerful antibiotic, antiviral and antifungal agents that have an incredible immune-stimulating effect.(1) Additionally, garlic is also used to lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and help prevent/reverse cancer.(2, 3)

Researchers have found garlic to be more powerful at destroying pathogenic bacteria than the popular antibiotics penicillin and tetracycline. It is also very effective against viruses and yeasts like Candida. Garlic is also very potent at destroying tumor cells in the stomach, colon, breast and prostate among other regions.(4) The sulfur compounds are also effective at detoxifying heavy metals such as mercury, lead and aluminum.(5)

Oregano:

Oregano oil is an extraordinarily powerful natural antibiotic. Oregano has been found in a recent study to be significantly better than all of the 18 currently used antibiotics in the treatment of MRSA staph infections.(6) The strong phenol antioxidant  destroy pathogenic bacteria, viruses and yeasts.

The USDA ranks oregano's antioxidant capacity anywhere from 3 to 20 times higher than any other herb. Oregano has four times the antioxidant power of blueberries, 12 times that of oranges and 42 times greater than apples.

Oregano oil has been classically used as a disinfectant, an aid for ear, nose and throat/respiratory infections, candidiasis and any sort of bacterial or viral condition. Additionally, it works to suppress inflammatory mediators and cancer cell production.(7) Oregano oil is more potent than the dried herb; however, the dried version still contains many powerful health benefits.

Studies have shown that carvacrol, a phenol antioxidant within oregano, has powerful anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity when applied to food or taken in supplement form. Oregano also contains rosmarinic acid which has very strong cancer-fighting properties.

Ginger:

Ginger is composed of several volatile oils that give it its characteristic flavor and odor: zingerone, shogaols and gingerols. These oils are powerful antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antiparasitic agents. In addition, it inhibits cancer cell formation while firing up our body's own inborn ability to destroy the cancer cells formerly present.(8)

Ginger is classified as a carminative (reducing intestinal gas) and an intestinal spasmolytic (soothes intestinal tract) while inducing gut motility. Ginger is known to reduce fever-related nausea, motion sickness and feelings of "morning sickness." Additionally, it helps aid in the production of bile, making it particularly helpful in digesting fats.(9)

Ginger is also an important part of a de-inflaming, natural pain-relief program. One compound called 6-gingerol has been shown to significantly inhibit the production of a highly reactive nitrogen molecule, nitric oxide, that quickly forms a dangerous free radical peroxynitrite. Additionally, ginger helps protect the body's stores of glutathione, which is a potent antioxidant and free radical destroyer.(10)
